Canpotex and Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre join forces to offer “FOOD FOR KIDS”

in the community

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan – Canpotex has committed $450,000 to the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre (SFBLC) over the next three years, with a primary focus on providing healthy food for infants and children in the Saskatoon community. This donation is in response to the troubling statistics revealing that one in five children in Saskatchewan are experiencing poverty and 41% of people relying on SFBLC emergency food hampers are children. The Canpotex Food for Kids matching campaigns will occur throughout the months of July, October, and February, and will match all donations from the public up to $50,000 during each campaign. The Canpotex Food for Kids matching campaigns will enhance the SFBLC’s ability to keep pace with the significant increase in demand for food for infants and children, including fresh fruit, infant formula, and baby food.

Laurie O’Connor, Executive Director, Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre: “Canpotex has stood by our side for the past six years as a champion of our Milk for Children program. This increased sponsorship for three new matching campaigns is significant, and we are grateful for their belief in what we do. They also volunteer frequently and have taken the time to get to know the issues the community faces. They help us to solve problems and participate in meaningful conversations.  This special relationship is near and dear to our hearts and has resulted in so many benefits far beyond their contributions of food and funds.  This is a company that shares our values, and this resonates in their investment in the community. We are proud of the trust and respect we have built together, because we believe relationship lies at the very center of our work.”

Gordon McKenzie, President and CEO, Canpotex: “We are proud to join forces with the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre for the Canpotex Food for Kids initiative. As the world’s largest overseas exporter of potash, Canpotex is deeply committed to both global and local food security. Through this partnership, we aim to address the pressing issue of food insecurity among children in our community. Together, we can create a future where no child goes hungry regardless of where they live in the world.”
